Our chapter needs more corporate and organizational sponsors and members in order to succeed in Michigan. Nationally, many companies and organizations take an active role in encouraging participation by Data Management professionals. Each chapter reflects the local corporate and organizational Data Management environment. For instance, in Washington, D.C. there is heavy U.S. Government involvement including many federal agencies like the FBI and the U.S. Department of Defense. The New York City chapter reflects sponsorship of the banking and securities community. In Houston, petroleum distribution companies and personal computer manufacturing companies provide corporate support. In addition, many IT consulting companies have member involvement in keeping the chapters relevant to local communities.

As we all know, an organization like DAMA-Michigan has to rely on the dues of its membership as it’s financial lifeline. The larger the paid membership base we have, the more exciting events we can plan. Additionally, within the Michigan area, there are a limited number of opportunities for Information Technology professionals to network and get to know their peers from other companies. DAMA Michigan offers this opportunity as one of the important aspects of being a member. I look forward to seeing this chapter  grow into one of the larger chapters within this region and one of the largest in the US. Please email your comments or questions regarding membership issues to membership@DAMA-MICHIGAN.ORG.
